I know two reasons they prescribe medical marijuana; for people with glaucoma and people with chronic pain.
In the state of Oregon, it is used for any chronic type of pain...years of migraines, back aches, etc. Also for glaucoma and cancer like mentioned before. But you can not obtain a "Medical Marijuana" card unless a doctor states that you have had chronic pain and nothing else has worked for you...and your medical records dating back 3-4 years to prove its been an ongoing chronic problem. (don't know if that answered your question, but its all i know on the subject!)
It was used before as anesthetic (to relieve pain) but not anymore.Though I think in other countries, marijuana is still legal.
people w/ glaucoma, cancer patients it relieves nausea and stimulates appetite...
