What's it like to be on disability [details]?
Question:
Answers:
First of all the amount of money you get from disability depends on how much money you have earned each year. They take your top 5-6 years of gross pay and divide that. You usually receive a letter in the mail every year telling you how much you will make if you were to ever claim disability.
And second - the best way, if you are truly disabled is to seek a good lawyer who can help you get your disability to go through.
why do u care??
i was on that for over 5 years . now off it . it sucks . but its a great deal better then no money of being on welfare.
this was in Ontario Canada . i got about 1000 per month . that is the max its very hard if not impossible to live on that .
I really have no idea because we have no disability benefits in my country. I'd say that as long as you're able to work, save your earnings for future use. That way, even if you'd be under disability, whatever problems on processing or how small the amount will be, you'd still have money stashed for at least the minimum comforts.
Live healthy and cheer yourself up. Sometimes thinking of problems that are not yet there adds to one's failing health. Consider yourself lucky at least in your country you have disability benefits you can look forward to even if its delayed. Here, sick people and persons with disability are much less fortunate.
To your health!
BORING
you never have the money to do any thing.
that is why i am here. for something to do.
I've been on disability for years, and yes, it is a trial to get the payments started. You have to have complete documentation of your illness and you have to be able to prove that it interferes with your daily routines. It took a year for me to get approved.
I live in Canada and have been on disability for 17 years due to horrific motor vehicle accident.Up here disability is not based on income, rather needs.People look down on you and form biased opinions.People hardly have enough to live on.You get comments about not working, such as,it dont show on the outside therefor you must be faking it.Most people are highly opinionated and abusive,Like the accident was my fault,(ect)when it wasnt.Just walk away from ignorant people and find those who are not.I used to make pretty good money and I do miss working but I could possibly be the reason why someone might be injured and ive got enough on my plate as is.For ten years we didnt get a raise and had to live in substandard apartments full of fleas or bugs or big rodents. There is no future on disability, just the past.Thats all ive got to say about that.
