It depends on where in your hand is numb. Is it certain fingers or is it the whole entire hand? It can be due to carpal tunnel syndrome or it can actually be coming from some type of problem in your neck. I suggest going to see a physical therapist or your doctor so they can determine if its a nerve problem, circulation problem, etc. It is important to make sure that your desk is set up ergonomically since that is how you spend a lot of your time. Also, make sure you have good posture when sitting and that your equipment allows you to have good posture.
If your fingers go numb thumb through that side of your middle finger, it's carpal tunnel. If it's the other side of your fingers it's the other nerve-can't think of the name of it. If you have carpal tunnel, you will tend to drop things and not realize you have let go. Change what you are doing or the way you do it. I had surgery and you don't get 100% back and years later I still drop things. I changed professions and that was the best cure. I had major nerve damage to the upper part of my body. With the change, the nerves regenerated and I can easily say that the wrist that was operated on and the wrist that wasn't both work about equally now. Get it checked out. Numbness is nerve damage of some type. If you have spine or vertabrea damage or spinal cord impingement, the problems are usually have symptoms associated with the extremities-ie-my neck injury exhibits as swollen knuckles and fingers and they feel like they are going to sleep easily but are not and major pain in hands with lots of use. Get a very good doctor and be very careful who operates, if necessary.
well something is cutting off the circulation...probably carpal tunnel, try a wrist rest/cushion
