Chewing tobacco?

Question:
My friend's cousin is 18 (years old), and I just met him recently. We have all been hanging out throughout the week, even though i dont know him too well. i noticed at first that every half hour or so he'd turn his back and shove something in his mouth... later in the week i noticed it was tobacco. he keeps it in this container in his back pocket, and spits out the tobacco in a water bottle. Whats up with that? Why do you think he does that? Would there be a common reason?

What does chewing tobacco do to you? Can it harm you with disaeses, etc.?

Please give as much info as possible...thanks so much!

Answers:
He's not really spitting out much of the actual tabacco, he's spitting out excess saliva that his body creates in response to the tabacco.
Chewing tabacco can cause gum and mouth diseases, and cancer of the gums and mouth, as well as other cancers.
Chewing tabacco usually contains small fragments of fiberglass (like those in the pink insulation, that makes you feel itchy if you touch it). The fiberglass creates tiny cuts inside the mouth (especially inside the lower lip, where they put the tabacco), which allows the nicotine to get into the chewer's blood stream. This can lead to a build-up of scar tissue in that area, and other problems.
Chewing tobacco is very harmful to your body causing cancer to the gums and mouth and severe damage to your teeth. Besides that, it's just gross!
Throat and mouth cancer...I promise
It just like smoking. It's an addiction to nicotine.
HE spits it out b/c he puts a wad of chew or whatever in his lip and the lets it sit there. The nicotine absorbs through his lip and stuff.
It's nasty but what are you going to do?
And yes there are helath problems, most prevelant... lip/mouth cancer.
A lot of people dip/chew. Just be careful if you continue hanging out with him and don't accidentally take a big swig of his nasty spit!
that is one of the most disgusting things EVER! not only will he probably end up with cancer in his mouth, but why would you want to kiss someone w/that crap all over the inside of his mouth, on his teeth and on his tongue? ugh!! gross! he does it b/c hes addicted (like smoking) and needs to quit ASAP!
Why not just put fertilizer between your cheek and gums? It can lead to mouth cancer. I live in Texas and it is very customary for people to spit snuff into Styrofoam cups. You have to be careful when you drink coffee.
Chewing tobacco is like smoking cigarettes, only you don't light anything. It gives you a buzz, which is kind of like feeling a little high or drunk.

It smells and tastes disgusting, not to mention carrying that water bottle around with brown spit in it. Chewing tobacco causes cancer of the mouth and severe tooth decay.

A report in the Journal of the American Medical Association calculated that smokeless tobacco users ". . . who use dip or chew 8-10 times a day might be exposed to the same amount of nicotine as people who smoke 30-40 cigarettes a day." The American Cancer Society reports that oral cancer occurs several times more frequently among snuff dippers compared with non-tobacco users, and the risk of cancer of the cheek and gums may increase nearly 50-fold among long-term snuff users.

The use of any tobacco product has both immediate and long-term effects on your health and overall well-being. Smokeless tobacco stains and wears down your teeth, causes your gums to recede (peel back) and produces mouth sores. Bad breath is also a common problem. Over time, the use of smokeless tobacco can cause mouth cancer. Nicotine from smokeless tobacco also raises blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and can make it more likely that you will have a heart attack.
Yes it's bad for you. he does it because it's an addiction. It gives you a nicotine high. It can give you cancer, gum disease, bad breath... etc.
chewing tobacco is also called smokeless tobacco. it contains nicotine which is an addictive drug. a person keeps needing to use more of the drug to get the relaxing effect that nicotine provides. but it is a dangerous drug. it causes mouth, tounge, lip, stomach, bladder cancer. it can stain teeth and cause sores in the mouth that can lead to cancer. a young person is very vulnerable to develop mouth cancer and it can spread very fast - and can cause death. if your friend has white leathery patches in his mouth he better get them checked because they can lead to cancer. it is nothing to fool around with. you are smart to be concerned but you can not stop him if he doesnt want to. good luck
