I had two MRIs last week. One on my lower spine and the other on my right hip. Both of them lasted about 30 minutes and I was fully in the tube. I got to listen to music the entire time and the mri techs will answer any questions. I have had three previous MRI's of my knees and for those my head was not in the tube.
hi -an mri scan usually is about 10-15 minutes -you lie on your back and you hear kinda a loud sound-magnetic resonance imaging -it is totally painless -ask the technicians to explain everything to you ---its thier job and i am sure they wont have any problems helping you to understand --i have had 9 mri scans --its a really big magnet-that takes pictures of inside your body -alot like a regular x-ray-only with an mri-it sees much more good luck to you and be brave -i promise it wont hurt
Its nothing to be scared of its loud but thats it you cant feel anything. It will last 15 to 30 minuts. dont be scared.
People have those every day and are fine. I am sure you are frightened since it is new to you. But since you are the patient and you are 14 you deserve to know the reason for it. You need to ask your Doctor why you are having it. You said you 'think' it is for your spine and knee. You need to know it is, and you need to agree to have it. It wont take long once the technicians who turn it on are ready ( sometimes that is what takes long) Some machines are open to the air and others enclosed so I am not sure which one you will have. Either way there are many tests much worse than that to have so you are lucky in that way. Just get it over with but DO feel comfortable asking questions . YOU are the client and they are working for you.
Having an mri is absolutly safe does not involve harmful radiation and is absolutly harmless. They make sure you dont have any metal by checking you with a metal detecter real thoroughly before operating. Then they provide ear plugs strap your head to a machine and it slides into a tunnle. I have had it before and its not big deal whatsoever. There is not any pain involved whatsoever, its just a machine wirring while you lay there. The only part that may bother you is they may give a injection (which you get at reguler doctor visits anyways) and that during operation a PA inside the mri will tell when they are ready to scan your brain and ask you to hold still. It is no big deal whatsoever. Its not like its a root canel or anything.
