I read an article today in which the woman said her husband died--suicide--by alcohol?

Question:
...His blood alcohol content was 5.0.I did not think that was possible,as I thought a person would vomit, pass out, etc. before that could occur.

Answers:
I would have to agree with you. Unless it was a 'pre-prepared' suicide. i.e. Overdosing earlier in the day and dying hours later when drunk.
maybe he choked on his own vomit
alcohol is one of the biggest killers of all drugs easy to take and painless
If you have a high enough strength and potency of alcohol, you could drink fast enough to get that high before passing out. either that, or a VERY high tolerance to alcohol (but I don't think you can develop that high of a tolerance).

That's why binge drinking is so dangerous.
it grabs everyone who persistently drink alcohol in large volumes
maybe it was rubbing alcohol
maybe it was denatured
Normally, you either pass out or you throw up. But you can open your throat so that the liquid simply pours straight into your stomach, or simply swallow continuously. Since alcohol and most liquids get absorbed into your blood stream pretty quickly, it's entirely possible to ingest a lethal amount of anything, including just water, which dilutes your electrolytes and leads to shock, before your body knows what's happened and can take action to protect you.
It is possible to reach that especially if you are an alcoholic who has developed a tolerance and belt some liquor down. Not something anyone should strive for .
