Ok im anemic.... but why now?

Question:
i remember like when i was 11,12 years old, my docter told me to take iron pills for about a year because i was a bit anemic. and also during that time i almost passed out in church once because i stood up for too long. well im now 16, 17 going on and ive almost passed out twice in the last month. the problem is, im in very good shape, eat pretty healthy, very active, ive played a few years of varsity baseball and basketball and have never really felt bad. today i worked reaaaaal hard all day but before felt like i was gonna pass out, especially when i stand idle for too long. ive been reading a bit on anemia and getting real scarred because severe cases can cause death :'(. Im gonna go see a docter pretty soon but anyone have any advice?

Answers:
See a doctor, and get a blood test. Depending on the results, your doctor will suggest a treatment. It could be as simple as taking iron supplements, getting weekly B12 shots, or if very serous, blood transfusions.
Women are twice as likely to have anemia than men.
If you're a woman, you need to monitor this due to having periods every month. if you're a man and are anemic, your doctor will need to check for internal bleeding.
Don't be scared- it's very common and generally something that is easily fixable.

It sounds to me that you might have low blood sugar rather than anemia, but only blood tests will rule that out.

DO NOT take iron supplements without blood tests. You could develop a very serious condition called iron overload (hemochromatosis)
Get back on iron pills and you'll be fine. Anemia is just low iron, not a big deal. You might also want to buy iron fortified cereals and such and eat leafy greens. Hope hat helps.
Sometimes our bodies have a difficulty digesting iron supplements or absorbing iron from the food we take.

One point is that vitamin C helps the body absorb iron. Fruits like citris, or tomatoes or potatoes that have lots of naturally forming vitamin C in them are good.

But don't eat calcium with iron because calcium inhibits iron absorbtion. So milk and iron rich food are not good together, see?

The morning is a best time to take fruits that are high in vitamin C and iron (like plums or raisins or prunes). That gives you the energy to go in the day.

Calcium foods are best taken at night, because calcium is very calming and helps you sleep.

The funny thing that I have noticed is that calcium and iron are both present in rich amounts in greens!

This has lead me to believe that we just have to eat right. It doesn't seem right to isolate the vitamin and eat it in a pill.

(BY the WaY overdose of iron pills can kill you, whereas overdose of spinach, well....just makes you bloated. PLUS iron pills are constipating)

Rather, know which foods are naturally rich in the vitamins you need. Find out which ones have the most BIOavailability (means they are easy to absorb) A balanced diet is therefore important!

Here is a list of some Iron rich foods that I have investigated!

*lima beans, mung beans, (also lowers obesity), black beans, lentils, chick peas, KIDNEY beans etc.

*amaranth has 5 times more iron than wheat (and it's rich in lysine an enzyme that helps you absorb nutrients)

*plums are high in iron AND they help you to absorb more iron!

* all kinds of greens (Parsley!! collard, kale, watercress, etc...)

*black strap molasses

*green veggies

any way I am sure you know there are so many ..

Keep investigating ......

there are also hereditary cause of anemia especially with Orientals or Italian..
