Can you get a stomach ulser by stressing about something for many days?

Question:
I was only wondering because I've been really stressed out lately about different things, and my stomach feels like it's in knots all the time...
what do you think?

Answers:
Days, no. Months, maybe.

Basically, when you're under stress, your stomach may get upset more easily, and long term stomach upset might possibly cause an ulcer if it's a bad enough response.

There are a lot of natural things that can help to reduce stress and there are a lot of people that get a lot of benefit from them. The most popular things for general relaxation are Valerian, Chamomile, and Hops. but some people actually wake up when they take these and are just very relaxed.

There are also some supplements that can help with stress and relaxation if you wanted natural help for that. There is St. John's Wart, SAMe, some B-Vitamins, GABA, Ashwagandha, and L-Theanine.
Knots in the tum aren't ulcers...latest findings on ulcers show that it's often bacterial infection that kicks them off, so a 'nervous belly' from stress won't cause an ulcer. Only a doctor can really diagnose the real thing, but in the meantime don't add "ulcer-fear" to your stress. Emotional "knots" come to all of us, and 99% of 'em aren't anything worse than that. Watch a silly movie, pray, have a milkshake..whatever!
The short answer is no. Stress as in psychological/social stress does not cause ulcers. Ulcers are general caused by a bacterial infection of the stomach (Helicobacter Pylori), medication (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen etc.), smoking and (maybe) alcohol. Behaviors induced by stress could cause ulcers such as smoking or drinking more, or using a lot of over the counter medications for headaches.

Upset stomach is a common manifestation of anxiety. Comfort foods like ice cream and junk food, along with caffeine, alcohol and tobacco can cause increase gastroesophageal reflux, which might be difficult to distinguish from ulcers.
