Does anyone else use self harm?

Question:
I have done this for several years now. Some people think its weird or twisted. To me its just a normal emotional release. Its a great stress reliever and does`nt harm anyone else. So why do people think its a problem?

Answers:
i've felt like doing it
but no
i know how frustating times can get and it feels great to just let in out with pain
but it could be dangerous.

maybe a SAFER from of relief?
It a problem because you are doing yourself (self) harm. Most people try to prevent endaring themselves. But you are just inflicting, what you believe to be a controlled amount of pain upon yourself. I don't honestly have an opionon on the subject of whether it's right or wrong. I've never felt the need to use this method to help me cope. But when you eventually stop self harming. Who are you going to blame for your own actions?
do i use it? not as much as i used to. is it a problem? yes and no. the people who care about you dont want to see you damage yourself, they want to be able to help you with whatever it is thats causing you to hurt yourself. my mom had me see a psychologist when i first cut myself. being able to work out my issues with a professional who is also an outsider to my life really helped. i didnt want to hurt myself anymore. i found new releases. i still go to see her, but i dont hurt myself much anymore, only when things get really catastrophic. normally, self harm is a sign of underlying problems of some kind and these should be attended to. i completely understand why youre doing it, bringing internal pain to the surface so it can go away, focussing your mind away from stuff, reminding yourself that you are alive even if you feel dead... sound familiar? i'd be happy to help more. im not a professional, but if you want to talk to someone who has been there, email me.
dn it b4 ... wel i did it 2 kill my self bt didnt wrk. was a gd stress relief at the tym bt glad it didnt wrk n aint doin it agen.

Nope .i dont think its strange, its different..but i dont care Live and let live
I've never tried it though I have been severely depressed before. I have just read a BRILLIANT book about self harming, it's a womans story of her own journey through it, it's called "Bloodletting" by "Victoria Leatham" give it a read it might provide some insite in to your own experiences.
I dont think your weird or twisted either.
Some folk would find it weird for someone to cut themselves to relieve stress & tension, but I think that most of us use self harm to relieve stress. After all is not smoking & excess drinking a form of self harm.
Speck, plank & eye come to mind.
it's a reaction to stress much the same way a nervous dog will chew at a spot incessantly
