Isn't that bad. I slept through mine. My wife was awake for hers. She even watched it on the monitor. Of course your sedated somewhat. Don't worry, the prep is the worst thing about it.

I never had one. But why would you want to be awake??
A little uncomfortable, but no pain as such. Just a little embarrasing.
well, Never had one but my Dr wants me to get one..I would get knocked out,,,I am sure it would be painful unless you like big thing going up your @ss...
Yes it is painful, they use a scope and look at your lower intestine. If you don't have to be awake don't. (GI nurse)
I don't think that you should do it awake...most places give you something for pain and then something that kind of gives you amnesia... its called conscious or moderate sedation.. if you dont have any meds to relax you, this procedure would probably be very uncomfortable for you... I am not saying it can't be done, i personally would just not recommend it!! Good Luck..
no youre not awake, it doesnt hurt, and your rectum might bleed some afterwards
you won't be awake for it. it's not painful at all. the "clean out" can be painful if you get stomach cramps, but the test itself isn't painful. don't know why you think you need to be awake, sedation is the best route to go lol, after all you don't really want to watch or know about the tube making it's journey. don't put off the test because of fear. it saved me from colon cancer and i'm a long-time survivor now. just get it over with.
A colonoscopy can be relatively painless when performed by an experienced practitioner. However, the exam can cause sufficient anxiety and pain, so people generally tolerate the procedure better when they have some form of anesthesia. Most often you'll receive a mild sedative either alone or with an opiate pain medication administered intravenously to minimize any discomfort.
During the exam you'll likely lie on your left side. Your doctor inserts the colonoscope into your rectum. Colonoscopes are disinfected between procedures, so the risk of transmission of infection is extremely low. The colonoscope is long enough to allow your doctor to view the entire length of your colon. It contains a fiber-optic light and a channel that allows your doctor to pump air into your colon, inflating it to get a better view of the interior lining. You may feel some abdominal cramping or pressure as the air is introduced.
The colonoscope also contains a tiny video camera at its tip. The camera transmits images to an external monitor so that your doctor can look closely at the inside of your colon. Your doctor can insert instruments through the colonoscope's channel to remove polyps, take tissue samples, inject solutions or destroy (cauterize) tissues.
A colonoscopy exam usually takes about 20 minutes to an hour.
Blue Lady---The procedure is painless and you are sedated with knock out drops or whatever... You must take a person with you to drive ya home or take a taxi. You will sign a paper to that driving fact...You can drive the next day... This procedure is serious for continued health. Please follow the preparation instructions. The prep is not good but take it all you can drink.Might want to use the hand shower to clean yourself. Buy one ---OK Your gona get raw from toilet paper. .Relax --calm down all they want to do is peak inside and see whats goin on. Damn pulups..
I had it done probably 5 times --
In July 2005 they found a nasty spot. in my colon... August 16 this was surgery and removed 16 feet of intestine Two weeks they confirmed I had cancer. Month later I had recovered quite a bit... Then began the Chemo therapy...That lasted 8 months.. You will not be able to work--you will be sick and run down tired... Took me 15 months to feel good to get a P/T job .. Filed for SS disability... The next 5 years of watching will kinda prove I am cured. Three more years to go... I spent on a credit Card about $17,000 on living expenses without including the $750 a month mortage...Made the mimimum payment every month to the credit card on time and early. Don't want to ruin Credit rating... .. ...
Its not painfull i would not let them give you any meds, that why if they screwup you will know right away not after you are send home.
