Question:
For the past month or two, I've started to have an awareness of the right side of my face right around where the jaw line meets the ear. It's not painful, but it's quite a nuissance for me. I don't notice it when I'm extensively preoccupied or distracted. So when I'm out surfing or at work I don't usually tune into it because my attention is focused elsewhere. It's a pretty big disturbance for me when I have downtime though. On the computer (right now I feel it), watching TV, and ESPECIALLY when I'm about to go to sleep, it's causing a lot of problems. The sensation, like I said isn't painful, but it's as if there is something touching the tissue underneath my skin ever so gently. I don't know what could have caused it. I do remember being hit pretty hard on the cheek with someone elses surfboard when I was surfing about the same time this started happening. Could it be some nerve damage? Should I check with my doctor? Day by Day it's becoming more difficult to deal with. Help!
Answers:
Definitely check with your doctor. It could be nerve damage, it could also be a cracked or broken jaw bone. If you got his with a surf board, it is a real possibility that either are the case. You could also have TMJ, and the "wack" with the surf board, just aggravated the problem. In any case, it is best to see a doctor, because all cases mentioned above can become painful, and if it is broken or if you have nerve damage, then these can become serious.
Good luck, hope the doctor gives you a clean bill of health, and it is just something superficial.
