Are patients who have had their tonsils removed,still given icecream & jelly or are they now given toast???

Actually, they are given very soft cold foods and all the flat liquids they care to drink. Most usually they try to avoid ice cream because dairy products cause the mucous to feel thicker and make them want to gag or vomit to get it out. Most people find frozen juice pops most comforting the first day or so. I doubt anyone would be able to swallow a piece of toast, and they really shouldn't try. The throat would be way too sensitive to the roughness and the pain alone would bring it up. But after the first day or so, you can certainly eat whatever you think you can swallow. Most people I know stick with broths, soups, jello, pudding, and frozen pops, mashed potatos and the like- but I suppose if you wanted to and could manage it, anything is possible. Your stomach won't mind, but your throat might.
yeah but i dont know about the toast thing
tonsils are rarely removed today since antibiotics were introduced. but the icecream stuff is probably left up to your parents, friends, family, or lover. they might not think its the right thing to give. but wouldn't toast be just horrible going down a sore throat.
START WITH ICE CHIPS, THEN PROGRESS TO FULL LIQUIDS, WHICH ICE CREAM AND JELLY ARE CONSIDERED-ON TO THE TOAST PRODUCTS, IF TOLERATED. LIQUIDS ARE ENCOURAGED, DRINK-DRINK-DRINK! PEOPLE DO GET THEIR TONSILS OUT THESE DAYS- ASK AN ENT SPECIALIST (EARS,NOSE,THROAT)-
I had mine removed at 24, almost 4 years ago, I was given ice pops that were flavored, that was it, the pain is worse than I have ever felt, if they would have tried to feed my toast I most likely would have thrown it at them! I normally have a high tolerance for pain, the birth of my babies both c-section,and a few surgery's and a cut off finger didn't compare! I was on liquid vicodin, and ended up missing 9 days of work! I highly doubt toast is given!
