I feel myself getting sick...any advice to stop it?

Question:
I'm taking that emergen-C stuff and a multi-vitiman, and am making sure to get 8 hours of sleep

For the past 2 days I've had a sore throat, and a stuffy nose, and now that thing on the side of my neck that is like a ball is swollen (don't know what that is but it happens every time I'm about to get sick)

Pre-season is in like 8 days and i cannot afford to get sick or slow down my training.

anything else I should do?

Answers:
Emergen-C is awesome stuff and you can't get too much of it! When I'm sick I put 3 packets into a bottle of water and drink it like a normal drink. I try to drink 3 bottles like that in a day, and that usually takes care of it.

If you are coming down with something viral (like a throat virus, which sounds likely), then L-Lysene will do a lot for you. Lysene fights viruses. Take 2 capsules, 3 times a day (that's what I do anyway).

Garlic is a natural antibiotic and it boosts your immune system. Again, very difficult to get too much garlic. So garlic supplements will also help you out a lot. Garlic pills are usually tiny so they will be pretty easy to take. Personally I have taken as much as six little pills, three times a day. I once got rid of an ear infection that way!

If your throat hurts so much that the lysene pills are too large to swallow, you can open the capsule and mix the powder into a little yogurt, and take it that way - it doesn't taste bad, just mildly salty.

I know training is probably important to you but be careful not to overexert yourself - you could make it worse and get way sick. Your body MUST rest!

If you want, email me and I'll send you an easy recipe for soup that is also full of things to boost your immune system and help you get better faster.

Good luck!
Drink lots of fluids and get rested up.
If your neck has a lump, it's likely a lymph node that is swollen from your immune system fighting the infection. Something I've tried is at the first symptoms take 1,000 mg of Vitamin C every hour for 6 hours the first day and then 1,000 mg of it three times a day. It can also help to suck on zinc lozenges, which are likely sold near the cough drops at the store, and use as directed on the package. Also, chicken soup really does have medicinal qualities. If you get to feeling sicker after a few days, it could be a bacterial infection that might need treated with antibiotics. Then you should see a doctor. You said you don't want to slow down training, but it doesn't pay to get overly tired when your body is fighting an infection. Don't overdo it.
Eat some chicken noodle soup with lots of pepper in it. That will help.
Keep yourself well hydrated, lots of water and juice. It won't stop you from getting sick but all of the steps you are taking along with taking in plenty of fluids will help shorten the duration of your illness.
sounds like it could be allergies. what's the weather like where you are. has it just rained or are there blooms, etc? in any case...REST! drink lots of healthy fluids. take lots of vitamin C every day. it's water soluble, so take it several times throughout the day.
Keep drinking the fluids. The white cells are going to start killing off infected cells in there any minute and the fluids will help flush them. A fever, or heat, is required for this process to happen, so you have to stay covered up and warm! Keep an eye on your temp though and don't let it get over about 102.5 before you take off the covers. The vitamin C thing is a great idea, I can sometimes stave off sick with just a few glasses of orange juice if I notice in time. If you don't let and help the virus run it's course you will only prolong its lifespan ensuring you won't be at your best for the pre-season event. Trust your training to this point and take 3 full days to recover before you begin again. Water water water, warm warm warm!
Tons of vitamin C, you can't have too much of it, you just pee it out. Rest a lot more than 8 hours if you can, and if your lymph nodes are swollen it means your white count is up, you have an infection somewhere. So you probably need some tylenol cold and sinus. take them as often as the label allows.
The balls and swelling around your neck is lymph glands. They swell and become sore when the release white cells to fight off infection. It's good that your taking the emergen-c; that will take care of all the vitamin C that you need. One other thing that would help is taking Echinacea. This can be found in any local drug store or wal-mart. This will improve your immune system. I would also suggest taking Robitussin... any of them that imply that they help for sore throat. I played sports for many many years so... I know where your coming from.
drink tea with honey and lemon ! you get lots of vitamin c from lemons and nutrients , minerals from the honey plus drinking a lot of tea will flush out your system . ! Tylenol for the pain and swelling . oh ! zinc is good to but vitamin c cancels it out . so don't take them at the same time ! one or the other . PS. this sounds gross but it works gargle with peroxide it takes away the pain and kills the germs in your mouth ! hope you feel better soon !
