Anyone know the long term effects of smoking weed?

Contrary to populular belief, smoking (even skunk) doesn't cause depression or schizophrenia. It is clearly a risk factor in both of these, however no-one has proved any sort of direct causal link. Paranoia is a real effect, however I have found that it has improved over the years as I recognise it more easily and can seperate it from reality.
I've been going strong for 10yrs now, and also have a very good job and all-round quality of life.
I am always irritated that the government goes on about the dangers of the new stronger strains when they have actually created this problem. In Holland you can buy a wide range of types and strengths, and the government has also capped the maximum THC content.
It's like the government forcing people to drink vodka all the time when lots of people like to have beer or wine most of time. Crazy!
I should also point out that the memory issue is also a myth. It affects creation of memory whilst stoned (just like alcohol does), but it is the drop in motivation or interest (if you assume you'll forget everything then you won't make any effort to remember stuff - a self perpetuating effect) which creates the perceived loss of longer term memory. Also, when you are stoned all the time you will obviously have big blank spots.you'd expect the same if you were drunk all the time wouldn't you?
a life of paranoid hell followed by a long slow painful death due to lung cancer
not good
Aaaahhhhh, I forgot.
Yes, you become a politician!
don't do it and you don't have to worry about it
lung damage and mental health problems... most probably schizophrenia. That's why this drug needs reclassifying!
Strongly linked with paranoia and other mental health problems, and incidents of severe aggression including matricides and patricides.
Use a vaporiser instead of smoking it. it is the act of smoking it that makes it carcinogenic. Take it easy on the strong stuff and use it in moderation and you should have no problems.
memory lost and vegatative states are known outcomes. Try to moderate your inhalings to onies..maybe that will reduce the affects of retardation.
Bill and Ben did weed...look what happened to them (NO MORE)
after 12 years i am fine.
alot of my friends have had nervous breakdowns due to years of smoking though.
long term memory loss, i remember everything before grass smoking but very little since was 17
Someone I knew smoked it for many, many, many years. No cancer, no memory problems, holds a job.
I believe it's all how you want to take it. If you keep thinking it will do bad things to you, then hey, it may.
It helped me get someone who would not eat, and was close to dying, an appetite, and finally was strong enough to have the surgery they needed. It ain't all bad.
paranoia, lung cancer, brain damage e.g (mental health problems) even so don't do drugs!
death
Your hair will fall out and you will glow in the dark. Then your finger nails will turn brown, and your eyes will turn red. An overwelming need to eat will be followed by periods of sleep. Then your bank account will slowly disappear. The last sign is you will ask questions on yahoo about it.
My biggest problem has been short term memory loss. I haven't smoked for a few years but my memory is still crap because of a few years of smoking. Just say no kids.
well, the obvious; lung cancer... but I think other than that, just maybe getting fat from all the munchies. Just say no!! :) Hope I helped
You are inhaling smoke from burning something of dubious purity, along with paper etc. So, whatever is in that smoke is going in your lungs. This can lead to short- and long-term lung problems.
The THC can cause changes in brain chemistry over long-term exposure.
Time spent with the weed is not time spent doing something productive, so you could find yourself behind in your personal or professional life.
With many jobs drug testing, you could find yourself shut out of career paths that might interest you.
Yeah it hasn't been around that long (I will assume that is a joke)...
According to the latest statistical studies, the short-term effects of smoking weed cause slight memory loss, lack of focus, etc. However assuming one is not smoking weed at the time of measure regarding for a study regarding long-term effects (such users have been studied in Jamaica that have smoked at least three to four marijuana cigarettes a day for 25 to 30 years), the long term effects seem to mentally insignificant (any memory effects will go away and the possible depression that occurs with stopping also will fade - if the depression does not eventually go away, it indicates that possibly the smoking induced a latent tendency towards depression or coincidentally happened during the same time) and physically the studies indicating that tar from the smoke cause cancer are too varied with too little conclusive, well-done studies to show that indeed smoking marijuana causes cancer via its tar. Thus that question remains indeterminate. However with any long-term smoking the possibility of lack of / degradation of full capacity of the lungs is possible although, again, the lungs seem to show a capacity for regeneration. The "skunk" (I assume you mean "potent") has really been shown to been statistically insignificant regarding long-term effects.
Just about the same really. They reckon that it's linked to skizophrenia (however you spell it!) and depression and things like that but I just don't understand how they can possibly know that!My boyfriend and I have smoked it for about 5 years now and we're both fine! We've got a nice flat, car, good jobs.I don't see the problem with it personally!I think that alcohol is linked to more things that skunk. What's the problem??!!?? It's nice to have a few j's n get stoned n av a laugh n chill out aint it?! It's not as if people get lairy or angry or wanna smash things up when they've had a few joints, unlike alcohol!! I love having a good old smoke! :D xx
its bad I'm afraid. the symptoms
You will start by looking at other peoples questions on yahoo and then progress to asking your own stupid questions for ever.
can cause mental problems not necessarily now but later in life. best avoided.
The problems associated with cannabis smoking have been well documented for many years. In view of this I was always astonished when Labour decreased its status. I am delighted that Gordon Brown seems set to upgrade it once more.
It causes increased risk of depression and schizo-affective disorders including schizophrenia. In virtually all chronic users it produces a degree of brain atrophy = shrinkage, this both leads to and accelerates dementia. Additionally it has similar respiratory and vascular effects to tobacco, which one must remember is responsible ultimately for the death of 50% of current smokers.
always stressing about nothing, can't think clearly and you'll have a real slow reaction
