Your doctor will need to show that you have tried alternative answers for weight loss, but most importantly, your doctor will need to write a letter of medical necessity to your insurance company. He has to state that your health is in serious danger at your current weight and why he feels you need the surgery. You have to be seriously obese in most cases. Your case will then go up for review at your insurance compaines board. This process can take up 4 -6 weeks, so be patient. Most of the time, if you doctor can prove that you have tried alternatives, i.e. diet and exercise, with no help, your insurance should (hopefully) approve it.
Good luck!
It's not what you tell them but what the doctor says. The insurance companies have certain criterias and you have to fit them first. I wish you the best, but you need to find a diffrent way to lose the weight. If seems like you need to talk to a dietician and personal triner to help you.
Your doctor would have to convince the insurance company that it is detrimental to your health. You would possibly have to be disabled because of your wieght so you would need a disability rating of 100% from your doctor. If you could get on Social Security because of your health do to your wieght that would be good. The insurance company will want to know if you have tried all other alternatives and that gastric bypass is the last and only way to correct your problem. You basically have to cry a lot and complain more inorder to convince anyone you need this surgery.
