the heat
or your playing sports?
im sure its anxiety.
When i was depressed i think i had an illness call dysempthia or something which cause me to be short of breath. Are you having some depressing thoughts? Google up "dysempthia" (i think thats how it's spelled) and see if the symptoms match you.
one thing it could be is the elevation here if u came from a lower elevation it can cause u to be short of breath..
It's most likely generalized anxiety which is causing you to be short of breathe. Sometimes, it just takes a while for your body to adjust to a death in the family and by being so overwhelmed with emotions, your body just can't keep up.

A few things to think about:
- does your chest feel tight at all?
- do you have problems getting air in, our or both?
- on a scale from 1-10, how hard is it to breathe (1 being the easiest)?

If I knew that, I could give you a more accurate possibility as to what the problem could be. But since someone just recently died, most likely it's just anxiety.

I'm sorry for your loss and wish you best of luck overcoming this!
