Why is it we cannot taste well when holding our nose or breath?

Because food has an aroma, or smell, which is small particles of the food actually in the air, which our noses detect and classify as food, activating our saliva glands, enriching our taste buds, etc etc.
true! i will watch for an answer...i think the smell of food makes us hungry even before we actually see the food.
its not that u cant taste well..u just cant smell it..so all u can taste is sweet, salty, bitter, etc... and thats what ur mouth does..
