What is hormones?
Question:
Answers:
Hormones are the "chemical messengers",made up of proteins chiefly produced by the endocrine glands.Eg, Thyroxine is produced by the thyroid gland.( Hope, you know, Exocrine glands secret enzymes eg, salivary glands produce salivary amylase)
Unlike enzymes, Hormones are directly released into the blood circulation either to augment or suppress the activity of the organ or tissue. Also ,hormones play a vital role for metabolising various nutrients in our body. Eg, Insulin converts glucose to Glycogen and on the other hand Glucogon converts Glycogen to Glucose.
Hormones are also important to stimulate the release of a other hormone from an endocrine gland. Eg, Thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH) is released from the anterior pituitary gland to stimulate the Thyroid gland to release Thyroxine.
Both hyper and hypo function of the endocrine glands result in illness and disease condition.
Hope, this helps

A hormone is a chemical that gives instructions to a cell or organ to do something.
For example when the body is low on water, the brain releases a hormone called ADH, this travels in the blood to the kidneys and tells them to conserve water.
Similarly hormones like testosterone cause the changes of the body during puberty (male).
