an antihistamine like benadryl or a topical cream can help but if you have certain medical conditions or take certain medications use of antihistamines could be contradicted
if it worsen or oozes see your doctor or a dermatologist as it can become infected and cause cellulitis
any break to the skin opens you up for infection as the skin acts as a barrier

Buy Zanfel poison ivy cream. It's expensive, around $40, but SO worth it! Rub the stuff on you in the shower and rinse. Then keep rinsing and rinse again to make you you have all the poison ivy off you. Trust me, it'll be gone!
Take Benadryl and apply Tea Tree Oil to yourself.
Seriously, if you are that covered in it, call your Dr and he/she can give you a shot and a prescription for pills to help you recover faster. It is worth it to get the immediate relief and healing started. You could always go to walk-in care at your local hospital if you can't get into the Dr.s for a day or so. Otherwise, Benedryl for the itch and ivy-dry. Ask at the pharmacy. Cold compresses and rubbing alcohol also help. I have scars from severe PI over the years and I always ended up at the Dr.s for it. Normally, with just over the counter meds,it takes 5-7 days to run its course if not longer. Wash every piece of clothing you had on and don't forget about your shoes you were wearing.
first of all ,when I read your question..I was tempted to say tell her to get off..but that is English humour..we don't get poison ivy here .or if we do I haven't heard of it or seen it..However we do have stinging nettles and such which are painful and itchy..we have a plant that's called dock leaf, that grows wild and if we get stung we rub this on the area to relieve the pain..(between you and me .I never found this to work..)but some people swear by it ..Most poison stings e'g wasp or bee..can be stopped hurting by putting vinegar on it..other stings can be eased by baking powder..but the most effective is calamine lotion..hope this helps..
