Why does it hurt so bad when you hit your "funny bone"?

There's a nexus of nerves there in a relatively shallow, unprotected spot
There's a big bundle of nerves there with hardly any bone, muscle, or fat protecting them. (Side note- it's called your "funny bone" because the scientific name for it is "humerus", which sounds like "humourous".)
