How to go to sleep and put mind at ease.?

Question:
I take 25mg of trazodone, a sedative antideppressant and have mild anxiety/ocd. At night, with exercise and meds, im tired, but when i lay down to go to sleep, my mind is so active and stressed, not by bad things but good. I keep thinkig at a time where i am supposed to be relaxing. It is aslo not easy to just stop thinking, because it amkmes me think even more. any advice?

Answers:
The most popular things for general relaxation are Valerian, Chamomile, and Hops. but some people actually wake up when they take these and are just very relaxed.

If you're looking more for sleep, there's Melatonin, L-Tryptophan, 5-HTP, Scullcap (an herb... it just sounds bad), L-Taurine, and Passionflower are all very popular to help people sleep naturally.

There are also some supplements that can help with stress and relaxation if you wanted natural help for that. There is St. John's Wart, SAMe, some B-Vitamins, GABA, Ashwagandha, and L-Theanine
Create a bedtime ritual: reading, quiet music, washing up. This signals your mind that it is time to slow down. Use some calm meditative background music and when you get to bed, stretch and relax each muscle group from feet to head. Then concentrate on your breathing, slowly, deeply and each time your mind wanders to something, bring it back to the image of your breath entering and leaving your lungs.
You may need to try the old habits that Mom use to use to get you sleepy when you were younger such as a warm snack or milk which helps to release melatonin in the body. Oatmeal works. Also try to keep the bedroom just that, a bedroom. Don't sit and watch TV, or play on the computer, read, or anything else to help yourself fall asleep (my doctor warned me about this) or else the sleep you do get will not be peaceful and recharging. Make sure that your room is cool and quiet and that you are comfortable in bed; which sometimes is hard if you share your bed with someone. They need to understand that getting a good night's sleep is just as important to you as it is to them.

If all else fails, talk to your doctor about your meds. I take a anti-seizure med (Depacote) that sometimes makes me jittery at night, despite exercise and being active during the day. My doctor prescribed me melatonin tabs so that I can get the sleep I need when I am having a hard time going to bed.

Hope it helps!
