Why do our eyes close when we sneeze...why cant we keep them open?
Question:
Answers:
It's not true that if you sneeze or cough with your eyes open that your eyes will pop out, or your eardrums will explode..
Your nose, and the muscles that controls the sneezing are in no connection what so ever with your eye balls.
My Jr. High teacher made that clear to us. haha.
It's the pressure of the sneeze that automatically makes your eyes shut and react to the pressure. So your eyes close for protection..Not only that but when one sneezes, a lot of our muscles tend to contract, forcing certain muscles to do different things..Just like our head and neck both react, as well as our back, when we sneeze because it's such a powerful force.
Even if you were to keep your eyes open during a sneeze, the force of the sneeze isn't strong enough to cause your eyes to pop out, or even to bulge out. You may feel discomfort if you were to have your eyes open while sneezing, but no severe damage would be done. It's just a reaction.. Sneezing is one of the fastest things and reflect that our body does.
Hope that helps!
xx
because the speed of which we sneeze is so fast that if our eyes were open then our eyes would probably pop out.
because your eyeballs would explode !
i heard our eyes would pop out!
im glad its a natural reaction i dont wanna try n hold em open!
We sneeze and cough at about the speed of sound, so it might be a good idea to shut our eyes tightly during the process. Never know, eye balls could pop out or something!
Sneezing involves contraction of the muscles of face, neck and eyes.
Because if you did, they would come flying out of your head at top speed along with their vile jelly. Out vile jelly!!
