Question for a doctor?

The doctor will ask you some questions. Your answers will determine if you are depressed. They do have a scale that they use to judge your answers. Usually they put you on Anti-depressants. I recommend asking to be refered to a psychiatrist. This way you have a better chance at getting the proper diagnosis and the right medication to treat you, if any.
Research depression and take a mood disorders class if you can. This will help you to understand the illness better and teach you what you can do, besides medication.
Good luck and hope you feel better.
I'm not a Dr., but I can tell you what mine did when I went in for help with depression. He told me that there are two schools of thought. One was that I could "pull myself up by my bootstraps"(basically try to force myself to feel better), or try medication. I told him that I'd tried for a long time to make it go away, and that I needed to try meds., so he gave me a prescription. He'd seen me before so he know that I didn't have any underlying problem that would be causing it.
Just go talk to your Dr. They won't laugh at you, or think that you are weak. They want you to feel better.
I went to the doc for anxiety/depression and they just basically ask you questions, then they decide on what is best for you to do. I asked my DOC for xanax every 4-5 hours and it help's my anxiety alot.. He is thinking about putting me on Zoloft to soon for depression, trust me.. Allot of people has anxiety/depression now and days, it is nothing odd.
When I went for help, they asked me a lot of questions, had me take a big test ( answering questions ), decided that I was suffering from depression. They prescribed medications, I also saw a psychiatrist. I go in for regular counseling, see the psychiatrist regularly and feel better.
