What do you do when you have trouble falling asleep at night?

Question:
I'm trying to go to bed earlier because school is just around the corner.
I started 2 nights ago, but when I lie in bed, I can't stop daydreaming... and it lasts for hours.
Is this normal?
What can I do to make my body & mind sleepy?

Answers:
I force myself to get up earlier. Only downside is I'll be tired for that day. I'll be ready to fall asleep fast at an earlier time though.
relaxation=warm bath before bed=cup of warm milk=reading
warm milk and honey
melatonin (vitamin)
lights out
no t.v.
silence your mind
no exercise directly before sleep
Alternative nostril breathing.

Plug one side of your nose and inhale through the other than exhale through the opposite and back and forth. Picture an upside down horsheshoe.
First, make sure you aren't doing alot (or any) caffiene during the day...it will mess up your body's sleep cycle. Make sure you aren't eating too much sugar, espeially close to evening. In other words, make sure you are generally healthy. Beyond that, try the usual book, light music, dark room, etc. Worst case you can talk to doctor about sleeping medication.
That's a hard one. Sounds like you're pretty excited about going back to school and your mind/body is ready to go! You might exercise before going to bed, read a book, clean your house ... anything to wear your body out. Then you should be able to sleep better. Good luck!
maybe you've got adult adhd.
I have the same problem too, especially in the summer! This is what I usually do if I have trouble that particular night - go out in the kitchen and make yourself some hot chocolate, or have some cold milk (I strongly suggest not heating the milk up in the microwave, for the "heat rays" turn the amino acids in the milk into carcinogens).

Here are some tips from a Wikihow article that I found for you - 1. Recreate boredom. Think of an activity you found boring or tedious but not especially demanding or strenuous.
Perform that activity immediately before going to bed. The boredom produced will lower your brain's natural level of arousal to something closer to sleep. 2. Simulate darkness. 3. Don't picture any bad, unpeaceful or unrelaxing visions, don't make your mind race with activities you must do tomorrow.

To prevent this from happening, you should get at least 30 minutes a day of exercise.

Hope this helps, happy sleeping!
take a nice hot bath and soak in bubbles and aromatherapy candles and it helps soothe the body from being so tired and worn out w/out u even noticing. But after that you'll feel the difference after you get into bed and slowly drifting away into beautiful dreams.
When in bed, listening to cd that plays the sound of ocean waves will make you fall asleep.
