I have mild anxiety and use codeine to treat it, should I change to Xanax?

Question:
I cannot get a prescription until 2008

Answers:
All I can say is that from my experience (I work in a home for the aged) is that we have never treated anxiety with codine. We have 6 residents (out of 52) that currently take Xanax. Four of the 6 have it prescribed 1-2 tablets PRN (as needed).
Usually 1 will get them through the night (or day if need be). On occasion, we will administer 2, but the resident is typically very lethargic for several hours.
I think that Xanax is a wonderful choice for treating mild to severe anxiety. Like any other controlled substance though, use it with caution.
codeine is not a prescription for anxiety, seem to me you just wont to be HIGH.....
Only your doctor knows for sure. From your letter it sounds as if you are self diagnosing, and worse, self treating with a narcotic. Xanax is a powerful drug, and can be quite habit forming. Please visit a doctor.

I take effexor and it seems to work pretty well.
No, you should address the cause of the mild anxiey without chemicals.
Well, you are acting like your own doctor, you decide.
Never has codeine been used to treat mild anxiety. Get a diagnosis and therapy.
Aren't Xanax very addictive?I am looking it up in a drug book. It has many side effects. If you are pregeant or trying to get pregeant or are pregeant it is not a good idea.codeine is used to treat pain, according to this book.
Actually, you should take up a calming hobby rather than use either one. Many athletes and male movie stars find needlepoint, latchhook, or embroidery relaxes them. Rosie Greer (ex-NFL player, actor, and now a preacher) is one of needlepoint crowd as well as Chuck Norris (Walker, Texas Ranger) and Johnathan Harris (the original Lost in Space).
Chamomile tea will help with anxiety. You can also take St John's Wort. Get away from the drugs. They have harmful side effects and long range problems for your body. Codeine will hurt the stomach lining if taken regularly and on an empty stomach. Why would you want to take a prescription that you have difficulty obtaining? This should tell you something.
