No, you can't use over the counter drugs. In the case, of Depression, such as Anxiety, Panic Attacks, which I can speak of, because I too did suffer with that type of Depression, and it was diagnosis as a Deep Mental Depression. You have to go a few steps, farther in seeking qualified professional, help, there is nothing wrong with your doing it, and believe me you will be all the better for it. I believe in you.

Valerian Root, it's at the pharmacy in the vitamin section. It stinks like hell but it works.

Are you taking any other medication? A lot of prescription drugs have stomach and anxiety side effects. If so, you may need to stop taking them.
Try to keep your self busy- active...not just watching tv. Do housework, wash the car, home improvements...doing some kind of active work may help. Try to do something with a friend.
If anything changes or gets worse, call a doctor on call asap.
For now, you just have to be physically active, house or yard work, going for a walk.
I think of several pleasant things to calm me down, like pictures in my mind of things I like or memories I have.
I recommend reading books about your condition by Claire Weeks. They were a life saver for me.
You may have a chemical inbalance. If the Dr prescribes an anti depressant, ask for Deplin to be your augmentation therapy. Deplin will help your SSRI work better, if he puts you on that course. If it gets too bad before Monday, go to the ER. You may have a thyroid problem that can be correct as well.
Breath in deeply though the mouth and release slowly though the nose - Do this for ten minutes at a time and try to get some sleep. Are you drinking coffee or caffiene products? Stop them, at least until you get a diagnoses from the doc.
Drink hot tea with lemon.
Try these: wet cloth on back of neck , exercise. When you feel anxious concentrate on something you like, such as the blue sky, beach etc. Put yourself there mentally and go through each step you will take to make yourself comfortable at the place you chose. It's like self hypnosis and it works!! Good luck. I and so many others have been there. It does get better, remember that.
