Why does my sweat sometimes smell like vinegar and sometimes like ammonia?

Question:
I shower every morning and wear clean clothes, and shower or bathe most nights.

Answers:
Hi,

It could be what you eat, drink or medicines that cause it or it could be and in balance in your body chemicals.

Try some of the remedies on the link page.

My in laws have a sweat odour that smells like onions, like you they are conscientious washers and use deodorants.

A strange anomaly as occurred both my wife's brothers married and their wives who previously did not have this smell now do, whether they are aware of it or not I do not know.

My wife on the other hand has lost the odour since living with me.

This has made me think that it may be a 'tribal gene' for want of a better description, carried by the males of the family and adopted by, passed onto, new members like a 'tag'.

I have heard of persons who have had a body odour that returns practically immediately after washing, but this was caused by a medical condition.

Try the remedies, if you still have the problem, off to the doctors you go.

Depends on what you've drank and eaten.
get that checked out
so you can put the vinegar on your chips and use the ammonia for the toilet to clean it lol.
seriously you need to change your deodorant, they stop working after a while as your body overides the effects they have. or see a doc.
i don't know go see a doctor maybe that is just the way it smells
need a good body wash, we smell of what we ingest, drink alot of water,
What you sweat, and many times what you smell when you do sweat can be caused by imbalances in your lab values. I would worry less about the vinegar smell, but the smell of ammonia can be a problem. Electrolyte imbalances are easily fixed, but you have to know which ones are out of whack first...:)
A lot has to do with what you are eating and the kind of vitamins you are taking. I ahve heard that people who take garlic supplements have a very strong garlic body odor.

Try drinking a lot of water, and cleanse the body, this will take several days and hopefully it will help to get some of the other odors diluted...sorry strange choice of words.
I think ur deyhated drink lots and lots of water but it shouldn't smell like that i think ur not peeing it out so its gotta come out somewhere sorry for any crudeness but make sure u get alot of water
Well.. Sweat itself doesn't smell, as sweat is mainly water, what makes sweat smell is the moist warm environments that the bacterium lives in, this digestes and the smell is from the bacteria, all you can do is wash regular and use a 'anti-bacterial' deodrant, e.g. Mitchum.
You drink too much vinegar and ammonia.
drink plenty of bottled mineral water large amount each day a 2 litre bottle would no doubt cure your problem
Ammonia is a natural component of sweat. If you don't drink enough water, then there's not as much water in your sweat to dilute out the ammonia.

Also, if you had a kidney problem, then the body is not eliminating the ammonia via the urine, so more is coming out in the sweat.

I'd say start drinking more water and if this doesn't help, see a doctor about a sweat test and a metabolic panel.
