Why do you salivate when you're about to vomit?

Question:
Just wondering.

Answers:
When our digestive system is irritated or our gag reflex initiated, the parasympathetic nervous system comes into play -- receptors in the stomach as well as the vagus nerve is stimulated. This causes a chain of events including nausea and salivation (the saliva reduces the acidic pH of gastric contents in order to reduce damage to our tissues, teeth, etc. and potentially facilitate expulsion).
I think its just bile that you taste...
Never noticed if I have. When I'm about to vomit I'm not thinking about my saliva.
Vomit contains a good amount of erosive stomach acid (which is why it tastes so vinegary). Saliva effectively coats your esophagus to protect it from whats coming through, and to grease the skids for an easy exit. Otherwise, u risk burning ur esophagus lining.
