If you want to die, you may not try to stop the blood flow. If you accidentally cut your hand off, either you or someone else will apply a tourniquet. If you don't bleed out, you have a better chance of living.
I hope you don't go around accidentally cutting appendages off. People might start to wonder.
your wrist contains your pulse rate of the heart. Your hand contains...blood and vessels.
Because you usually try to stop the bleeding when you cut your hand off. You don't die from the initial bleeding. You die from waiting a really long time for all the blood to drain out of your body.
You could still live if you cut your wrists, and die if you cut off your hand. It all depends on how well you can slow down the bleeding in the time it takes you to get to a hospital.

because if you severed your wrist(cut whole thing off) the main arteries would pull back into your forearm, but when you cut it the arteries will go nowhere so u just bleed until you die
It all has to do with the amount of blood that is lost from any major injury.
You can technically die from blood loss even though no blood leaves your body.
If the blood isn't circulating properly you die.
So take your examples: if you cut your wrist and then hang out while you bleed out you will die on the other hand (yes, pun intended!) if you cut off your hand it is usually an accident and the first thing that you will do is try to stop the blood flow.
An aneurysm is an example of there being no blood outside your body and yet you still dying. The major arteries that leave the heart (the the major veins that return the blood too sometimes though not as often) can become weakened and split or can be torn through some major trauma and just like cutting a garden hose spill out all your blood into your body cavity such that you are bleeding internally.
There are a hand full of other ways to (like third spacing where a vein or arteries in your thigh is cut by a broken bone and you bleed into your leg) to die from internal blood loss not to mention just your heart stopping.
So it is all about blood loss and circulation not to much the amount of damage done.

These People Who Are Getting All Of Their Arms And Wrists Cut Off And Reattached Are Dead Lucky. People Should Be Grateful For The Body They Are Given With (Unless They Are Just So Damn Ugly) Lol.
