Question:
I hae an HSA account for my medical insurance. My expenses table shows that I can iuse my HSA debit card to pay for medications, such as aspirin, allergy and sinus medications, antacids, and bandages..but NOT items merely beneficial to one's health, such as vitamins, nutritional aids and supplements, toiletries (e.g. toothpaste), or cosmetics (e.g. face cream).
Do you think I could use it to buy Iron pills? I have minor anemia and I think that taking these will help me feel less fatigued and tired and weak during the day. Is this a qualified expense?
Answers:
I have anemia too and my iron pills cost $2.99 for 100 at K-mart. I wouldn't use a health savings account for something that will cost me less than $15.00 a year.
Vitamin B12 might help you too. If it doesn't it probably won't hurt you. It's pretty cheap too. Like $4.00 for 100.
