I'd be more interested in knowing WHO is this questionnaire for and WHY are they doing it - and WHY ARE YOU asking women to share this sort of thing with the rest of the world ! - !
No drugs during, just did my lamaze breathing.. but had demerol (sp?) after and felt fine. The third kid, I was up 10 minutes after I had her and took a shower. I went drug free because I had a shorter labor each time.. 1st kid was 8 hrs, 2nd was 3 hrs, 3rd was 1 hr. really no time for drugs to kick in and the pain wasn't too bad that I remember it now or anything. The drugs after was because the Dr. told me I had to take it.. although I think I would have been OK with just Motrin.
first child 12 years ago i had an epidural, basicly i was advised to do this because it was a long slow labour that went on for a day and a half in all, this pain relief was great on one side but not on the other ,the whole time i being topped up and turned over i felt like a big useless lump of moaning pain, it wasnt a very good expierence in the end my son had to be delievered useing forceps.my second labour was different it wasnt a painful so i stayed at home until i was 3 cms,i said no way hose to the epidural and delievered my baby girl 3 hours after i got to the hospital, gas and air did the trick,i felt so much better afterwards i swore i would never get an epidural no matter what, there was no stiffness or painache which most women get after th epidural.no on to baby no. 3 this baby was 11 days over just like my first was ,but i was adament no epidural, anyway to cut a long story short this baby was not going to come out on her own she was face presentation which means her face is were the top of her head should of been,of coarse the doctors didnt figure this out until the baby was really struggleing her heratbeat was going very slow before the decision was made to give me an epidural so a cs could be performed,i said ok ,as the baby was in trouble and i wanted to see her born even if i wasnt the one actually pushing her out,but then things went a little crazy ,she was in real danger so i was pushed into the teatre, washed down and knocked out with a general ,i woke to a baby i didnt even see born very upset that the first face she saw was a nurse,as even her father wasnt allowed in ,this pain releif certainly worked as i didnt wake up thank god....every birth is different, but my advice would be to stay away from the epidural, short term painreleif, with long term side effects ,such as backache, the inability to push the baby out which ends up with you being given an episiotomy, that means stitchs which can take weeks to heal, not to mention the fear of ever having sex again, sorry for being so negetive ,but its the truth....
1st child - pethadine - 2 hour labour
2nd child - 2 x paracetomol - 1 hour labour
3rd child 1x paracetomol - 45 min labour
pethadine was the best but it slows labour down but hardly any pain. No time for pain relief with 2nd and 3rd as was fully dilated and didn't know i was in labour (didn't feel a thing) honest.
