Is there any advice out there for a bigger fella taking yoga?

Question:
I just started to take yoga classes last week and I'm finding it hard to keep my balance and concentrate on my breathing. Part of the reason is that I'm 6'2 215lbs and holding some of the positions like downward dog are a bit tricky. Anyone out there got any advice or will it all just come with practice? I really dig yoga and someday hope I can hover in mid-air like Dhalsim. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/dhalsim...

Answers:
Yes, it will all come with practice. You will gain more flexibility, and will lose weight doing this too. Someday soon you will be hovering! :)
I've taken Iyengar style classes going on four and a half years now, and while I don't know whether any style of hatha yoga will lead to ability to hover, Sri K. Patthabi Jois is often quoted as saying, "Do your practice and all is coming." Another frequent Jois quote is, "Yoga is ninety-nine percent practice, one percent theory."
My teacher often tell us consistancy is more important than quantity. That is, it would be better for you to do fifteen minute practice five days a week, rather than do longer sessions irregulary.
As far as finding it difficult to balance or concentrate, I would say, do not let it frustrate you. Just observe it, try to let go of any thoughts/feelings of frustration, and just continue your practice, even when it may feel like you are starting over from the beginning.
Best of luck to you.
