Can medications give you nightmares?

Question:
I have been taking some new medications over the last few months for my allergies and asthma. I have noticed that since I have started taking them, I have nightmares almost every night. It is weird because they all usually have to do with somebody that I talked to earlier in the day or it takes place in someplace that I have been earlier in the day. Is it possible that the medication is causing these nightmares or is it just me?

Oh and the dreams always feel so real--sometimes I wake up and wonder if it really happened.

Answers:
Oh yes they can! Different meds can up the anti on your dreams, sometimes you can even "smell" or "taste." When you fall asleep you are at your brains mercy, and whatever has been on your mind will most likely seep into your dreams. If they are bothering you, losing sleep, and dragging the next day talk to your doctor and ask him to either change your meds or adjust them. Good luck!
It probably is the meds. Are you taking them right before bed? Can you switch to taking them in the morning? It might help.

Good luck. :)
Absolutely. Let your doctor know.
no, its just on your mind what happened during your day.
Yes, YES, Y E S.

Talk to your doctor and tell him the side effects you are having. He might be able to switch your medications or inform you of some other medication or herbal supplement to help you get a restful night of sleep.
Yes dear! Meds can give you vivid dreams/nightmares. My Husband went onto the smokers patch to quit smoking which is also a medication and it gave him so many bad dreams, VIVID bad dreams that he had to stop taking the patch! Weird!
ABSOLUTELY

MIND ALTERING DRUGS CAN CAUSE REAL PROBLEMS TOO.

TELL YOUR DR.
YES! Medications have given me nightmares many times!
Absolutely, when I take Ambien, I have wild nightmares. Contact your physician...
Sure medications can do this, but I am not really sure if meds for asthma & allergies can?? Talk to your doctor and ask him or her:) GL:)
Your not alone. Quite a lot of people get nightmares from medicines. Its one of those facts like people used to say hot chocolate made you go to sleep quicker. It does but it gives you nightmares therefore letting you have less sleep. I recommend a nice hot water bottle NO hot chocolate and try going to bed later after you have had the medicine. That way it gets into your system and you body has enough time to get used to it. Hope i have helped.
YES & Pizza too! lol
