There are a lot of us out there, but you need to ask questions before we can answer them.
Anything specific?

I hate to be vague, but really the only answers I can give you are, well, vague.
Each individual patient and each individual anesthetic are treated as individual cases. What was done for you and given to you may not have been the same that was given to someone else. There is no single "anesthetic drug" that is given to everyone to induce sleep. I don't mean to sound pompous or self-important, but there really are dozens and dozens of different drugs and techniques that can be given or performed for any given patient. Our training and experience dictates what we do for certain patients (depending on their health, etc.) and certain surgeries (length, type of procedure, blood loss, etc.). It's tough to explain our entire specialty in a paragraph or two. Then, when you factor in that each anesthesiologist (U.S.) or anaesthetist (U.K.) has his/her own preferences and techniques, even for similar cases, you never know exactly what you're going to get (more than one way to skin a cat?). I hope (and believe) that all of us out there, despite our different techniques, provide a safe and appropriate (and good) anesthetic. I hope this hasn't been too boring.
As far as your particular case, many people do feel like crap after surgery, depending on a number of different factors, including some dealing with the individual patient. I wouldn't worry that anything was wrong or inappropriate, sometimes patients take a while to "wake up" (a term we don't like - very vague).
As for the pre-med - Zantac is a drug to help with nausea, sometimes given. Also, often given is something to help relax as you are being taken into the O.R. (theater). But, as I said before, everyone is different and some anesthesiologists don't like to give anything beforehand - it all depends. So please don't think that all surgeries and anesthetics are performed in the exact same way. There are hundreds of different means to the end.
Hope this helped (and wasn't too long-winded).
