My sister was choking, what should I have done?

Question:
Earlier today, my younger sister was choking on a grape and she came running to me. All I could do for a few seconds was think Oh my gosh! What do I do? Then, i quickly ran her over to my dad in another room. I know how to do the Heimlich Maneuver and Abdominal thrusts, but when it happened, nothing came to mind. This event scared me so much. Now i wonder, what if this happens again, when my parents are not home, and I can't think of what to do? I have the knowledge to help a chooking person, but when it happes my mind goes blank, how can i prevent this? Also, was it ight to go to my dad, or should i have done it myself (if i remembered)?
Thanx!!

Answers:
Basic First Aid should be tought in Schools starting very young. There are many classes out there for folks who would like to learn as well as Nurse/Medical sites you could look up and learn. You might even visit the local Firehouse or Hospital to see if they have any classes.

It usually takes a scare from a loved one or friend before most folks want to learn. Seems like the newest game, phone, or celeb gossip is more important now days. :-(

Get the training, and practice. If the time comes you will react and not panic.
Yes! It was right to go to your dad. If this does happen again, try to stay calm and keep your mind clear of all other things and focus on what is happening and what you should do. If your too nervous to do the Heimlich Maneuver then I would say to just hit her on the back. Good Luck and I hope she's okay! :)
