Waking up someone unconscious?

Question:
You know how you see in the movies where one person wakes up someone unconscious with some sort of spice that gives a strong scent to the person who's knocked out, what exactly is the spice (or whatever) that they use?

I've heard of it before but in the script I'm writing I've totally forgot the name of it.

If you don't know what talking about (just in case), what are some other ways to wake someone up unconscious without using water?

Thanks! :-)

Answers:
It is not a spice... it is called Smelling Salts.

Ammonium carbonate, (NH3)2CO3·H2O, is a colorless-to-white crystalline solid commonly known as smelling salts; in water solution it is sometimes called aromatic spirits of ammonia.

People sit up and take notice when smelling salts are placed beneath their nose. Ammonium carbonate is mixed with perfume to create a stimulant. The ammonia fumes from the salts irritate the membranes of the nose and lungs, which triggers a reflex causing the muscles that control breathing to work faster.
nutmeg.
easy get a musical instrument and play it in their ears. ^^
nutmeg is the spice
just yell at them to wake them
I think you're talking about smelling salts, which I believe were amonia. There was a pretty old idea that you had to be careful about waking people up probably due to some superstition. Just shake them and yell "wake up dude!'
