Can you donate blood after gettin a tattoo?

Question:
so i want to get a tat6too, but my friend said that u wont be able ot donate blood after it.is that true?

Answers:
you have to wait 6 months after getting a tattoo to donate blood -- it's to verify you didn't contract hepatitis or some other disease from a dirty needle
I believe you have to wait a year if you've had a tattoo done. It's one of the questions that they ask you before you donate blood
Yes they make you wait a year after a tattoo or a piercing.
Depends on the blood bank, some don't allow tattoos.
you can get a tattoo and still donate, they just ask that you wait a certain amount of time after getting inked. just to be safe i would say call the red cross and ask. i think its like 6 months.
In Australia you are not allowed to donate blood after getting a tattoo.
yes.
yes its true.. i found this,,,,
""Wait 12 months after a tattoo if the tattoo was applied in a state that does not regulate tattoo facilities. This requirement is related to concerns about hepatitis. Acceptable if the tattoo was applied by a state-regulated entity using sterile technique." (http://tattoo.about.com/cs/articles/a/bl...
i understand it as... that if u get it done at a professional palce (i bet its more expensive too!) then its ok.. tho i'd obviously still mention it wen u donate.. they mite accept it or not.. depending on the place i guess...
I donate plasma, and I'm going to assume that a lot of the rules are the same for donating blood, and they say you have to wait a year. I asked why it has to be a year, because I am wanting another tattoo also, and they told me that the FDA will not agree on the regulations on tattoo parlor cleanliness, so even though the parlor uses sterile tools, it might be considered "dirty" by the FDA. Better safe than sorry I guess. So, if you still REALLY want the tattoo, donate blood for a little while longer (I'm assuming you're doing it for money) and then splurge on the tattoo and wait the year until you can donate again. Tattoos are beautiful forms of art and are worth the wait.
Hi! I do know for fact that in Canada, where I live, you cannot donate blood for at least a year. This is probably due to the possibility of acquiring things like infections, hepatitis C, HIV, and so on, if unsterile technique and equipment is used. If you do decide to get a tattoo, please check out their credentials and cleanliness of the shop and if they use sterile disposable needles for each use!
