How do I stop racing thoughts in my mind?
Question:
Answers:
Focus on an object of interest in your minds eye...basically meditation. As much as the streaming thoughts enter, push them away from concentrating on the object of interest..do with eyes closes...practice when going to bed it might be easier to focus on during your relaxing hours!
put a rubber band around your wrist and pop it against your skin , when you catch ourself like that , kind of an aversion theraly. Helps with my OCD tendencies.
You may want to speak to your doctor. The thoughts you're describing sound like symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder. This is in no way a diagnosis! I just think you should mention it because sometimes the disorder manifests itself as obsessive, unrelenting thoughts with no compulsions. It might do you good to get screened. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help. Also check out the book, 'Brain Lock', by Jeffrey Schwartz. Good luck.
Dont bet on the races so much...
You might have a medical condition that should be checked out.
Also, try to watch closely what you eat. Sugars and caffeine can have that type of side-effect. I.e. chocolate, candy, coffee products, sodas, etc.
Good luck!
Try some simple meditation. Just sit comfortably in a chair or lie down. Breathe so that your breath makes your stomach pop out a little. This gets the oxygen going all the way to the bottom of your lungs. Let you breathing naturally slow down over a few minutes as you relax. Now start at your feet and consciously relax your feet, then your ankles, then your calves, your thighs, your hips, your lower back, your mid back, your upper back. Now relax your hands, your wrists, your elbows, your shoulders, your neck, your neck and your face. Concentrating on each part of your body helps you empty your mind so you can truly relax and stop all the thoughts. Stopping thoughts from intruding is what meditation is all about. Listen to some music that relaxes you. It works best if it's instrumental (no words) and doesn't have a strong beat. If thoughts start to come to mind don't push them away just notice them and let them float away. Forcing yourself to change your thoughts is counterproductive so take it slow. Every time you do this it will get easier until you can create that feeling of total relaxation without it taking 20 minutes to go through your whole body. You will be able to do it in minutes whenever you feel anxious. If you find it hard to go to sleep try this. You can also take some Calms Forte which is a non habit forming homeopathic muscle relaxant and sleep aid. http://www.drugstore.com/qxp33135_333181...
