Is it bad for my back to keep sleeping on an air mattress?

Yes, air matresses aren't good for your back. If you're just feeling sore, my advice is to try sleeping in a different possition, or with extra pillows under and/or around you. If that doesn't work, try sleeping somewhere else! Even a couch would do. It's got some support, and definitely won't slide out from under you. But, if you're feeling true back pain, and you're lacking necessary sleep, my advice is that you ask your parent for a matress. Yes, its extra weight when moving, but if you hurt your back badly at your age, there very well is a chance that it will cause permanant damage in the future. Spine's are terribly delecate, and back pain is common nowadays. If space when you're moving is the problem, I'm sure it could be strapped on top of a car.
Your back is important, and air matresses were never intended for long-time use. There's no equal substitute to a real matress, but if that truelly isn't an option, try getting memory-foam. There are matress-cover ones available that just go over what you already have, and it may help your back. BUT i still stick to just pressuring your parent to get a matress.
back pain is normal, and i wouldnt worry about permanent damage.
no
You need a real bed. Your spine and everything else is still growing. Get a futon if she doesn't want to spend the money for a new mattress. They are easier to move then a real bed anyway and you would have more room in your bedroom, when you fold it up into the sofa possition.
Good luck hon.
You can get them cheap at Wal-Mart
Air mattresses are not comfortable for most people over a long term. Depending on how you sleep, you may continue to experience back pain. Futons are hardly any better. Futons are convenient, but aren't as comfortable or supportive as a mattress. It really depends on how you sleep and what you're comfortable with. A lot of people are fine with a cushioned pad on the floor, some people need fancy foam beds, but yes, you could be setting yourself up for... not permanent damage, but long lasting back problems. A simple back injury can take months to resolve, years in some cases, and having back pain just from sleeping means your back is slightly strained already, putting it at greater risk for injury during your day.

Well, I dunno.
I'm 14 and was stuck in that same type of situation 9 months ago:
we moved far, far, far, away (by plane), so didn't take any furniture with us, and once at our destination, all of us got air mattresses.
The thing is, I never got back pain after sleeping on mine.
It was tossed some months ago, but, my dad still won't get me a REAL mattress, only a crappy substitute for one...
Actually, 2 of my brothers still have air mattresses.
So I shouldn't complain.
