What has been your closest brush with death?

Question:
I was climbing up a cliff with a friend just for fun when we reached a section which was basically sand. There wasn't the possibility of going back down the way we came up and we had to cross this weak part of the cliff without it taking us down with it. Very carefully we made it.

Et vous?

I was on a river float trip and the canoe capsized, I got caught in the current and pulled under water for 3 minutes, I was drowning, then a hand grabbed me and pulled me out and saved me.
Having a loaded shotgun pointed right at me. I had been on a domestic dispute call and the wife came to the door with her husbands shotgun and she took aim at me and screamed in a foreign language. She wouldn't let me leave. I wasn't able to hit the emergency button on my radio, but when I didn't answer the dispatcher, they sent almost everyone to my location. Whew. I do believe she is still locked up today.

I used to live in Manteca,California back before the railroad tracks had arms.
It was very foggy one morning as I was on my way to work so I was driving very slowly when suddenly I felt like stopping and getting out of my car.
So I stopped and heard something and felt my way to the front of my car and just barely made out the train directly in front of my car speeding by just inches away from where I had stopped.
Just a couple of inches closer and I would had been in a terrible accident with the train and never would have known what hit me because the fog was so thick.
As the town grew they installed bells and arms and lights to alert motorists when a train was going by.

But until then we had to be very careful.
when i first tried my grandma's home-made cookies.
Glad you made it!

Mine was during winter. I waitressed ed 3rd shift at a truck stop. Drivers kept coming in all night talking about how bad the roads were. So, after my shift I'm starting down the road. Two drivers had left shortly before me. I started down the highway, and was thinking, "This ain't so bad! What the heck are they talking about!". Well, it wasn't long before I caught up to the two drivers that left before me. We were also heading towards an overpass. I went to break to slow down since I was heading for the rear end of the second driver kinda fast. I started fish-tailing and got it under control and was still going to fast so it was either pass where I couldn't see over the overpass, or go down a huge hill. I chose to pass. Then my car turned totally sideways and was heading right under the trailer of the truck. Then, you won't believe this! My car just stopped dead in its tracks and the engine was OFF! Only inches from going under his trailer! Now, if this doesn't tell you that there is a God, I don't know what would! That was about 22 years ago. I'll never forget it.
i was coming back from texas with my mom and sister and we were on a VERY long bride in louisiana. my mom's car had stalled and there was nowhere to pull over and we almost rear ended and 18 wheeler. luckily the car cut back on and we could break in time before we could hit the truck.
Scary. Well, when I was younger (about 7), i rode the school bus. i was crossing the street, but my brother was already getting on the bus, so the bus driver thought i was home sick or something since i didnt get on w/ him. So she started driving, and if she hadn't turned around to wave at my mom (my mom waited right outside our house and waved at her every morning) and my mom hadn't signaled at me crossing the street, i'd probably be dead right now. i was literally like an inch away from the bus when it stopped for me.
While working in the coal mines a piece of rock 6 ft by 6ft by 2ft thick fell and pressed me into a piece of equipment ( a glancing blow of course or I wouldn't be here). I had a broken hip, pelvic on both sides and my spine was dislocated from my sacroiliac. After being treated at the hospital I developed thrombosis in my left leg and had to stay in the hospital two months in traction. Seven months after being hurt I was back underground working in the coal mines.
I've had quite a few...

3 car accidents, one involving a bus and the most recent one (last month) had me spinning out 180 degrees on the expressway in mid-day traffic... I don't know how the other cars didn't hit me, but just facing the other way and seeing them swerve and flying by you is enough to have you almost die of a heart attack... I ended up hitting the median and it tore my bumper off and cracked my muffler pipe...

I fell off of a 2nd floor back porch when the railing broke and I broke my ankle...

Those are the scarriest ones
