Is there something wrong with my tonsils?

Question:
My tonsils are different sizes, I know this is normal, but the smaller one has a pocket above it that collects what i can best describe as possibly a calcium deposit, it's always a small, roundish clump of offwhite substance that is somewhat hard and soft at the same time. I can usually easily pick them out without gagging at all, I sometimes cough them out with phlem and they taste and smell awful. I had a visit with my dentist recently who reccomended talking to my general practitioner about having my tonsils out. I'm 22 and have never really had a problem with them, is this an extreme solution? Is the "problem" really bad? Also, the dentist told me that the longer I wait ( i assume he ment the older I am) the more trouble having them out would be.
Any help and experience is appreciated.

Answers:
I have the same thing. That's funny. I always assumed it was just food that did not go all the way down and got stuck there and that is why they smell so badly. I really can't give any information on this. I never asked anyone about it at all.
If you do end up going to the doctor and they suggest getting your tonsils removed please let me know.
