Sleep walking & talking?

Question:
Almost every night my boyfriend wakes up laughing, batting "bugs" off himself, talking about work, having full-on conversations with me or just walks around the house & eats..he never remembers a thing! He has done this most of his life, but it's getting more frequent. He doesn't want to take a sleep aid or go to the doctor...any advice??

Answers:
That's a tough one. I myself am well known for talking and yelling and kicking in the middle of the night. I got help from a physician (and ended up being diagnosed with multiple different sleep disorders).

Usually with REM (the dream phase of sleep), your body releases chemicals which keeps you immobile. Sometimes, as is the case with your boyfriend, the sleep cycle malfunctions.

In my experience with men and health issues, the more you make it a big deal, the more resistant they will be. From the perspective of someone with sleep disorders, I long for understanding and acceptance.

I would suggest you get a body pillow to put between you two to protect you from his batting "bugs", and ear plugs to save you from the laughter and work discussions. I would also tell him that you love him and that, so he knows, you here this kinda stuff isn't uncommon and can sometimes be helped. If he pushes back about that, I would try to let it go. It's not as dangerous and doesn't have as bad health effects as sleep apnea.

Good luck.
Try to get him to go to the doctor and get some help. This could be dangerous.
My kids do the same thing and their 3 and 6 it scarey when they try to get out the door though I have to keep it locked,
