All the experts on insomnia say that you should go to sleep with the TV off. However, sometimes when I have insomnia the silence gets on my nerves, so I put the TV on. If you sleep OK, I doubt it makes any difference.
It's unhealthy for the environment to leave it on at all.
just don't get too close to the TV
Depends on what's on. You hear the TV & its content while asleep, which has an affect on you. Same with music.

My daughter slept with sad music playing & became depressed. Changing the music changed her mood.
I don't think it matters. Some people can't fall asleep without it. But, I'm no head doc, so. All I know is I can't stand it unless I'm that tired where I can't keep my eyes open for another second. I've never heard about it affecting anyone's health, but I could be wrong, so...
I usually fall asleep with the TV on and it's still on when I wake the next morning. I haven't suffered any ill effects.

Having the TV on will help you fall asleep in the sense that the sound is of a consistent and predictable quality, however, it is unhealthy to sleep with the tv on, since the actual noises themselves change all the time and you can never fall into a trully satisfying sleep, therefore you are more tired if you leave the tv on while sleeping. Also, if you are relatively young, (as in still studying), you can find it affecting your development and mental capacity.

In order for your immune system and the rest of your body to rejuvenate, a human being needs to sleep with no noise and no light, not even a night light. If you fall asleep with the tv on, just turn it off when you wake up in the night—at least get SOME sleep with complete silence and darkness.

Light and noise tell your brain to wake up, unless the noise is a constant, soothing background noise, like a waterfall, ocean, or fan. \0/
