Where do I get diagnosed?

Question:
I am a teenager, who has some issues. I took some online tests to see what I have, and I can't really rely on internet tests. I know you might just say that the reason I feel so bad isn't really a disorder, but just the fact that I'm a teenager. But, I really don't think so, and want to know where I can go to get diagnosed professionally for whatever condition I have. I also heard that you must be 18 or have your parents' consent before seeing a doctor. I'd like someone to let me know if that's true. Thanks!

Answers:
Laws on parent's consent vary widely. Local Library should have a list of resources in your area and info on age/parental notification. Or look in phone book under state or county mental health. Local Alcoholics Anonymous or Al-a-Teen groups would likely have some info for you.
WEB HELP: National Alliance on Mental Illness

Information, resources, support groups, etc.
Good luck.

see your school doctor
Uh, are you still in School? Isn't there a School Councelor running around some place? Next up, check with your family Doctor. In America after age sixteen you can keep things relatively private but yea most Americans do wis to bump the age to twenty-one or twenty-five. There are lots of teen help lines in the yellow pages. Peace.
What do you mean you cant rely on internet diagnoses? Its foolproof.
yes the 18 or parent thing is true, "but" doctors will keep thing confidential if you go to them as long as things arent life threating. just tell the doc you dont want your parents to know. but if they check the doctor bill then they will know.
who told you that? you can see a physician even if your a toddler (provided that you know where to go to and understand what the doctor say). they're just scaring you. go and see a physician on a public clinic in your hometown so they can help you.
A school counselor or nurse might be able to help. You could also check with your local Red Cross or United Way to see what community based organization are available.

Whether you can seek treatment on your own is probably dependent on where you live. Some states (US) might require parental consent, others might not.

Hope you get some answers soon....

Good Luck!
It's true unless your pregnant. Then you are an emancipated minor. If your health is at risk, tell your parents and worry about the consequences later.
depends where you are

in the UK i know of some organizations that will help you without parental consent (this also includes some organizations that are in Europe).

any where else im not sure

i would speak to someone asap though.

if you feel bad and you obviously feel that you need some help, make sure you start the process.

for example, maybe there is a school counselor that you could begin discussions with about what you need.

maybe a GP that is not your family GP. maybe an aunt or uncle or someone that is not your parents but still cares for you and who you trust. im also quite sure that if you dig around online you will be able to find helpline you could call for information about services in your area. the helpline would be confidential and probably quite informative and you could do this from home.

either way, make sure you start that ball rolling and get the support you need.

best of luck
Hi there...the website below provides some helpful information so that you can seek out professional help locally if you are located in the USA even if you are a minor. I hope you find someone soon as this is the best course of action to coping and managing your mental health.
you can go to your family doctor, have consultation with him.
Or to your councellor at school
or to a priest.
Talk to them.
