An man of 70 taking Prozac one capsule everyday for over one year. Is that good or harmful?

Question:
Prozac had cured his melancholia many year before. After that he take it only when he had a depression. Now he taking regularly hoping to prevent recurrence of melancholia.

Answers:
If he has been taking it with little or no side effects I would say to keep on it, especially if it has been successful. It is safe for long time use.

I would however, have his MD or caregiver continually evaluate the use of this medicine and all of his other medicines very regularly

Other Answers:
if it worked before,it will work again, and it sure wont hurt him.
it made me not care about anything so i tired the herbal solution. st. johns wart. cheap and available at any vitamine store.
The FDA approved it for long term use and there's no age restrictions. I'd say he's good to go.
This is a great drug for treating depression and can be used for long-term treatment. As long as a doctor sees him for occasional review of his medications and is aware that he continues to take it, there shouldn't be any problem.
