How long does it take?

Question: When you see a therapist, how long does it take them to diagnose you if you have a disorder? Wouldn't they be able to tell you that day if your "normal"?

Answers:
That depends on several things:
1. How good a diagnostician is your therapist.
2. How well do you relate verbally your problems.
3. Do you have any "measurable" anomalies (thyroid, etc.)
4. How common or rare is your problem.
5. Does anyone in your family (or friends) has a similar problem?

Some disorders can be diagnosed in minutes - some take as long as ten years and some may never be correctly diagnosed.

Sure you would think they could.However,who's to say what or who is normal?And,sometimes other problems can come from unlikely or unrelated sourse's.Most times all the therapist does is help you to figure out your problems by opening yourself to them and admittin ya have one.No one these days is without stress.And even if your not actually having a problem at the time,,,,it can become a problem later down the road as more stress or problems arise.Me.I am certifiable.hahaha

It may take a few visits for them to understand you and what you are experiencing. I've had trouble with some therapists not really listening ot me or even believing what I told them. I preatty much told them what I had, they confirmed it and I found a new therapist.

I have yet to be diagnosed, and have been seeing my doctor for over 2 years.The possibilities for me are bi-polar, depression, ocd, anxiety, and ADD. SO I take a few meds everyday, but manage to work part time, go to school full time and live a cool life. If I dwell on it, I get in a funk. So SKIP it..I'm still not diagnosed!!
