What happens if you are taking Prozak/Fluoxeti. and you drink?

Question:
On the bottle it says " do not drink alcoholic beverages when taking this medication" with a crossed out martini glass. What if I just drink liek one beer what will happen? or one shot ? i need to know!!

Answers:
The drug interacts with alcohol and makes the affects of alcohol worse. I'm on Prozac/Fluoxetine and I've had a drink or two. Usually I just get really tired and mellow, and I just want to sleep.

I think you need to change your screen name, and I will tell you..

I'm thinking liver damage, but I'll go look it up real quick. It competes with the metabolism of the alcohol by your liver. Alcohol can have an adverse effect on also any drug. Sometimes it can affect the absorption of the drug and sometimes it can have an additive effect. I think maybe one drink should be okay, but I wouldn't go around driving for a while because it may impair you a bit.

It probably makes the effects of alcohol more potent more quickly.

Because fluoxetine acts in your brain and alcohol also does. So effects may be potenciated, you will maybe fall sleep in minutes or maybe make silly things . One thing´s for sure, you will not feel good and you will have a lot more possibilities of finish your day in a hospital.

I would say it depends on how severe your depression is, or the dose your on.
Prozac is prescribed to treat depression, it is a SSRI. Alcohol is a depressant. The two together will counteract one another and the depressant effects of alcohol my be magnified making you even more depressed than usual.
I would consult your doctor. But if you have mild depression and/or are on a low dosage then maybe 1 or 2 beers drank in moderation will not be a problem.
You should take mental stock of your mood to make sure you are not getting too depressed.
