What are your coping skills for depression?
Question:
Answers:
have used several anti-depressants. yes, i feel 100% . i have used meds, lifestyle modifications and therapy. each person responds differently to each med. and the dosage makes a big difference. if you truly have clinical depression, i suggest a good psychiatrist for a referral for counseling and to help you find an effective med or meds. lifestyle modifications are also important... reduce stressers, get regular exercise, have a set sleep schedule, join a support group for people with depression, for me diet even helps. non-processed foods help me. there a tons of books at the libraries. and remember, you will feel better! oh, also, if you have had 2 major episodes of depression, it is recommended that you stay on anti-depressants indefinately.

anti depressants dont work
nothing cures it except winning the lottery
a good way to keep it at bay is the comparative theory...knowing that most other people, well cool people, get it too makes you feel better cos then you know youre not the odd one out!
I take an anti-depressant and it is a constant battle. I am always conscious of avoiding situations that might make my depression worse. Sometimes I feel pretty decent and other times I want to stop taking the anti-depressant and try something new, or not be on any drug. Exercise seems to help me. I also went off my anti-depressant and started taking SAM-E and actually felt pretty good.
yes i do, i honestly can say that i just feel like "the real me" 99% of the time. what I'm taking right now really works. and my family, including husband, parents and sibs all agree that I'm back to being me. But life is always interesting and challenging or it would be boring. The antidepressants just make me be able to deal with what comes up and continue on.
I'm not saying it was easy to get to this point. It's been eight years since i was first diagnosed. I have had 6 different therapists. That was compounded by the fact that i lived a semi-rural area for three years that just didn't offer good medical support. I have tried effexor, paxil, welbutrin, zyprexa, celexa/lexapro and probably others i don't remember.
the drugs do work differently on everyone and require some experimentation, and new drugs are continuously being introduced.
On the other hand I had great things happen when i wasn't stabilized that i just couldn't enjoy.
I realize i will be taking meds for this the rest of my life and that's ok. it is a chemical imbalance in my brain, i'm not crazy. it's like other people have high blood pressure and if they want to have a healthy, long life they better treat it.
my advice to you is to find a doctor you trust, honestly tell them how the meds are affecting you and follow through with the meds and just accept yourself and enjoy your life.
