How to circumvent depression?

Question:
I've just started college this year, and I fear I may be having a relapse of depression. I've already taken some steps to try to nip this in the bud - dropped a course that was stressing me out, started to see a school counselor, etc.
Even so - any advice on how I can attempt to stop "negative self-talk", feelings of failure, hopelessness, and such, before this gets worse? (I'm not really interested in going on medication again unless it's absolutely necessary.)
Any steps I can take to avoid getting into fights with friends and family, and to help them understand what I'm going through?

Thanks for your help.

Answers:
the college years are tough to begin with depression is even harder!Have you spoken to your DR. about this.Meditation may help or an excercise regiment. You are not a failure, start thinking about all the positives that will happen once you finish college and what kind of cool life you can have if you help yourself. This just may be a down time for now.It will get better.God only gives you what he thinks you can handle.Keep your spirits up!Good luck to you!
hey. i'm going through the same thing. so far what i've been trying to do is keeping myself busy and not think too much. i've started doing voluntary work in a local charity shop and joined some clubs. so far it's working.
