What is a good career for a person with depression who has a hard time dealing with people?

Question:
I have some socialization issues that are part of my depression. Any ideas of what career would be a possibility?

Answers:
Gee, I think you might need to address some of those issues before making a career choice, have you or are you already seeing a psychologist and/or a psychiatrist for medicines? Sounds like you're trying to live your life around the depression and social fears, if this was a perfect world I would recommend seeing a therapist and working whatever job you can handle to put food on the table and as you become healthier/stronger then start to explore "career" stuff.

All of the careers that come to mind that would allow you to avoid people seem to me like they would just make you more depressed, plug the holes in the ship before you set sail. Good luck! Also, sorry if this sounds patronizing, really I'm kinda in the same boat with you.

Other Answers:
work as a vet. youll light up when you see little boys and girls say thank you for helping their puppy
Maybe working on a help-line of some sort. Counseling type calls, or prevention-lines. There is training for this type of thing and protocols to follow. That would give you stable guide-lines for your reactions and responses to another individual in difficulty. For myself, it has made me more thankful about myself, even when I am in a depressive state.

You're not alone.
I have some of the same problems. I joined the Army to help me out. Sometimes it backfires. Good luck!
hotel room cleaner, Subway/Bart driver - machinist - warehouse worker - somewhere away from the crowds

Or to help you maybe
A personal trainer, vet, sales person.
Good Luck!

A long haul truck driver, you come in very little physical contact with other humans.
I agree with most of the others please seek out help first and understand that with time your outlook on life will change and get easier believe me on this. I had some of the same issues when I was a young lad so I became an automotive technician (mechanic).
You dont really need to deal with people to much and you are alone alot with your thoughts and your music or talk radio (my choice) not to mention the pay is great. After 5 years of hard work and getting all of my ase certs I was making 65k a year easy. Any good junior college can help you become a good tech.
